Horsehair Vase

$95.00

This one-of-a-kind art is created according to a Native American technique where the ceramic vessel is pulled from a red-hot kiln and the horse tail-hair is immediately applied to the surface of the pot, one strand at a time, etching the squiggly black lines permanently into the clay. Each horse’s hair reacts a bit differently. The intense heat of the fire, combined with the high risk of cracking due to thermal shock, makes this process exciting for the potter and dangerous for the pot! {They don’t all survive.} Since the clay is still porous, the vase will not hold water and is for decorative purposes only. Tall and slender, it measures 9 inches tall and 6 inches wide and would make the perfect gift for any horse lover!
